Interesting Options…

Today(yes on a Sunday) I received an email from a professor at NECC offering me “invitation only” enrollment into a Hon English Composition class based on my score on the writing portion of the Assessment test.

I would love to jump at the chance at taking this course because the itinerary for the course looks amazing, including an assignment to create written histories from personal interviews with residents of a local homeless shelter which I think would help me in my goal to someday work with homeless or former homeless individuals as a counselor.

Luckily I have an appointment with my HUS advisor Thursday so I am going to weigh the options with her seeing as it would fit into my schedule and I could drop the psychology and save that for another semester if she thought this would be a good opportunity.  Granted I would love to take all 3 courses but my financial aid won’t cover all three so bummer. So we shall see!

The Last Piece is Done

Yesterday I emailed my old high school as to get transcripts that they could send to my college so I could finalize Financial Aid. In the email I received back yesterday I was told to call the school today so that I could tell the secretary what needed to be done.

Well today around 10am before I had called anyone I received an email from someone within the school system saying that they had sent out my official transcripts this morning and it was all finished.

Not only did I not have to call the school but it was done today so the college will have everything by Monday and will more than likely officially finalize everything for Tuesday! Sweet deal. Now just time to relax and wait for the semester to start.

Info Meeting!

So tonight I had someone cover my lame 3 hour shift and went to an informational meeting at the school about the Human Services program so now my final step: I have an interview with the director/coordinator to finalize my acceptance into it then I am off to the races!

I met a few nice people and am hoping to be in their classes as they seem to be taking the same things I am this semester and feel that as long as I network and keep being positive it will all fall into place and I will be working in the field within 2 years. Hopefully short, steady, and happy ones!

So yay!

It's Like Christmas

I am feeling this new nervous excitement, it's like its Christmas morning and I am unwrapping some amazing gift that I have been waiting patiently for. And what am I talking about? Going back to class. I am excited to learn again, and not just learn through life which granted can be pretty amazing. But to sit in a classroom, and be able to absorb information to me is almost more pleasurable then eating your favorite ice cream. And if you know me at all you know that's saying A Lot!

I guess you could say I was always the kid who tried to be cool in school but really deep down wanted to know everything that we were being taught. I have always had this undying need to learn. And it really never mattered what it was, although I still hate math. But recently took an assesment and tested into Calculus & AlgII. How did that happen?

So basically I am eagerly awaiting September, granted my days will be longer, and I will have to learn to study again but I'll get back into and am determined to face this fullforce. Because how else do you face anything worth doing?

So The Journey Begins...

After 2 years out of my first college experience, and a new name and new perspective on the world later I have decided to dive back into higher education. My first goal is to get certified to be a Alcohol & Drug Addiction counselor, then from there complete the associates program. Hopefully while doing this I will pick up some practicum credits that will also double as a job til I get my associate's then transfer to a 4 year college and get my bachelor's in the program. Hopefully I will have this all done in the next 4 years, granted I am able to take summer classes and possibly winter courses also.

I was initially going to wait until January but Jason said to just do it and that there's no sense of putting anything off any longer. I have successfully enrolled, signed up for my first two classes, and am now just finalizing financial aid then finalizing my admission into the Human Services program itself by getting my personal interview done and attending an info session but I already know I want to go through with it this will just help to make me understand how the school is going to be able to help me achieve my goals! Sweet.

Classes start Sept. 9th. So I am excited and will be updating here for all my school related things. Just so that I can better organize and my readers are able to pick and choose.

Thank you for reading! And I hope from this to gain moral support when needed and to also maybe help someone who may be thinking of doing this or something similar!
